Susan Carmody, Marin Independent Journal
"From the front, the drawers look like huge polished columns. But, with the turn of a key, the columns swing open
on hidden hinges revealing drawers shaped like half-moons."
"Croutier's birch furniture has smooth, rounded, sensual lines with an art deco or futuristic flair."
Maggie Crum, ContraCostaTimes; August 12, 1983
"Office furniture combines functional design concepts with the beauty
of sculpture..."
"Sculpting his pieces from prime Finnish birch, Croutier laminates more than 500 select strips of wood to construct
the sinuous, curving shapes that are the basis for each desk. As the layers of strips are stacked, they alter the
initial form slightly, causing angular shapes to become rounded, full bodied curves. Hand sanding and countless
coats of lacquer bring the pieces to their final porcelain-smooth finish."
"The torso desk and credenza derive their names from their subtle suggestion of the human form. The tapering arms
of the desk reach up to support a smoky glass oval 3/4-inch thick desktop. The hour-glass shape is repeated in the
form of the credenza, which houses four storage drawers and a large lateral file cabinet."
